Before, selecting to pre-register for an app provided users with the option to get notified about the app’s availability. However, that option seems to have been retired, which is now replaced by a prompt that provides two options upon tapping the ‘Pre-register’ button – ‘Also install when available’ and ‘Done’.
To check if the option to auto-download an app or game is available, you can head to the Games section in the Play Store, scroll down to the ‘Pre-registration’ games section, select any game, and click on pre-register. The feature is currently rolling out and should be available to all users over time. It is unclear if the Play Store will default to auto-downloading the app or game on Wi-fi only or if it will obey the auto-update settings set by the user regarding mobile data.
