Before, selecting to pre-register for an app provided users with the option to get notified about the app’s availability. The feature also included the option to be notified of other new games that it thinks the user would like. However, that option seems to have been retired, which is now replaced by a prompt that provides two options upon tapping the ‘Pre-register’ button – ‘Also install when available’ and ‘Done’.
 
To check if the option to auto-download an app or game is available, you can head to the Games section in the Play Store, scroll down to the ‘Pre-registration’ games section, select any game, and click on pre-register. The feature is currently rolling out and should be available to all users over time. It is unclear if the Play Store will default to auto-downloading the app or game on Wi-fi only or if it will obey the auto-update settings set by the user regarding mobile data.
