Quote:Cumulative updates no longer cause the same major issues as in the early days of Windows 10, but this doesn’t mean that everything is working exactly as expected.
Living proof is none other than the July 2019 Patch Tuesday cumulative update aimed at Windows 10 version 1903, or May 2019 Update, which keeps asking for a reboot despite the fact that the installation completed successfully.
As reported on BornCity, installing cumulative update KB4507453 seems to be working exactly as expected, with the update requesting a reboot to complete the process. Everything is working correctly after that as well, and Windows 10 boots to the desktop normally.
However, KB4507453 shows up once again in Windows Update, once again prompting for a reboot in order to complete the installation. Restarting the machine the second time doesn’t make any difference, as the same behavior keeps repeating even after booting back to the desktop.
Microsoft hasn’t provided any information on this unexpected behavior of the cumulative update, and the company is yet to acknowledge the bugs here, so at this point it’s hard to tell if it’s a widespread issue or not. However, users who successfully installed KB4507453 and are then prompted for another reboot can try restarting the device from Windows Update, as this seems to disable the repeating behavior for some.
