Google says Chrome is faster than ever, sees a 10% performance gain in a year

Google has published an article in its "The Fast and the Curious" series to showcase various performance enhancements that were made to Chrome. It says that Chrome is faster than ever, and  outlines how it achieved the highest score on Speedometer 3 benchmark.

In August 2024, Google Chrome v128 managed to clock a score of 42.84. Nearly a year later, Chrome v139 dev managed to score 52.35. The chart below shows how Chrome's performance fared through the milestones in Speedometer 3.



Google says that the benchmark was done on an Apple Macbook Pro M4 with macOS 15, and the tests included the following: HTML parsing, JavaScript and JSON processing, JavaScript and Document Object Model (DOM) interaction, DOM manipulations (element insertion and removal), Text size computation (font shaping), Cascading Style Sheet (CSS) application and layout calculation and Pixel rendering.
