Suitable for cheaper CPUs or X3D series.

Earlier this week, AMD announced its 9800X3D processor, which is fully compatible with the entire 600-series and 800-series motherboard lineup. For the 800-series, AMD has only launched its X870-series boards, which are premium designs and may not appeal to everyone. The good news is that even the best gaming CPUs like 9800X3D are supported even on entry-level A620 boards, but with AMD now unlocking overclocking capabilities, the mid-tier B650 and B850 series may be a better choice.

Similarly, Intel launched its Core Ultra 200K series with five models so far, all of which are 125W TDP models aimed at premium systems. Only Z890 motherboards have been released, and these remain the only option until Intel launches the more affordable B860 boards later. Based on previous launches, it’s likely that the new series will have some limitations, such as the absence of CPU overclocking (known as IA/BCLK OC). However, these boards will support memory overclocking through Intel XMP.

As with other B-series boards, there are additional limitations, including fewer PCIe lanes, lower DDR5 memory overclocking profiles, a limited number of M.2 slots, and less powerful VRMs. For the Core Ultra 200 non-K series, expected to launch in early 2025, these may be a good fit.

ASUS ASUS has just published a list of four TUF and ROG motherboards featuring the AMD B850 chipset. These include both ATX and Micro-ATX designs, with three of them equipped with built-in WiFi.

ASUS isn’t exactly hiding the fact that their 800-series motherboards are coming. They are listing the names on official ‘landing’ sites for AMD and Intel motherboards for this generation. ASUS will launch both B860 and H810 series, with H870 notably not present in this list.
