AMD added Curve Shaper to Ryzen 9000 to improve undervolting

AMD has confirmed the rumor about a new feature coming to Ryzen 9000 series.



The company has invested significantly in improving memory overclocking support for its AM5 platform. The overclocking features primarily aim to enable faster memory speeds and more optimized profiles.

The updated platform, featuring the latest AGESA firmware, will support DDR5-8000 memory and allow for on-the-fly memory overclocking. Additionally, users will have JEDEC support for DDR5-5600 memory out of the box, and memory overclocking will be supported on all AM5 consumer chipsets. Worth noting that this is not limited to 800-series chipsets.

One of the most interesting features for the Ryzen 9000 series is Curve Shaper. AMD explains that while Curve Optimizer enabled users to dynamically adjust frequency/voltage curves for Ryzen 7000 CPUs to enhance undervolting, it was limited to individual CCDs or CPUs.

Curve Shaper builds upon this foundation by allowing users to reshape the voltage curve, adding a new layer for improved undervolting. Essentially the same feature, it lets users selectively add or remove 15 different frequency-temperature bands (3 temperatures, 5 frequencies).

Once enabled, users should experience reduced voltages on stable bands and increased voltage on previously unstable bands. This feature can also be applied to individual cores and remains adjustable via Curve Optimizer.
