AMD is preparing a new series of high-end desktop APUs series featuring Zen4 and RDNA3 combo.

Interestingly, the AMD Ryzen 8000G series was prominently absent from the recent AMD AI event, even though it shares comparable hardware with the Ryzen 8040 mobile series. Speculation surrounding these initial desktop APUs from AMD had been circulating since late November, and ASUS seems to have now substantiated some of the specifications.

The latest information has surfaced on the ASUS CPU support page for two motherboards. @momomo_us, a diligent hardware detective, uncovered the listing of six upcoming AMD APU models in the following details:

According to the provided list, the Ryzen 7 8700G is anticipated to showcase a 4.2 GHz base clock and house 8 Zen4 cores. Although details about the boost clock are absent in the ASUS listing, leaks have indicated a potential 5.1 GHz. As for the Ryzen 5 8600G, it is expected to incorporate 6 cores with a base clock of 4.35 GHz. Unfortunately, the ASUS list doesn’t verify the RDNA3 GPU specifications.

ASRock appears to have made a similar error by sharing a screenshot displaying Ryzen 8700G CPU-Z data. The company has shared this screenshot along with the information that their X670 motherboards will support 256GB total memory capacity, thanks to the introduction of 64GB modules. A similar announcement was made by MSI earlier today, but it is not confirmed that Ryzen 8000G series will support such memory as well.

ASUS also confirms the existence of Ryzen 5 8500G and Ryzen 3 8300G, featuring 6 and 4 cores, respectively. Notably, these CPUs are reported to utilize a smaller APU silicon than the 8700G/8600G, employing a hybrid Zen4/Zen4c microarchitecture.

An interesting observation highlighted by HXL is the mention of B2 stepping in the list, indicating that the APUs are based on “Hawk Point” rather than Phoenix. This implies that AMD’s forthcoming APUs will deliver enhanced NPU performance for AI, while the other specifications remain largely similar.

ASRock screenshot also confirms that Ryzen 7 8700G will feature Radeon 780M graphics, which implies 12 RDNA3 compute units. AMD and motherboard makers are yet to confirm the full CPU and GPU clock speeds for these APUs.
