Overview

Ashampoo® Backup Pro 25 is Windows-based a comprehensive backup solution to back up or restore any file, partition or bootable operating system. Real-time file monitoring updates backups fully automatically on file modifications. Archives can easily be restored in the event of hardware issues or system malware infections. 

Thanks to Ashampoo® Backup Pro 25's 'smart background technology', backups can be created  automatically (fully). This 'smart background technology' monitors the system load and only becomes active when enough resources are available ensuring the programs does not interfere with normal PC operation.

During backups, Ashampoo® Backup Pro 25 constantly verifies each operation to avoid data inconsistency. This even includes health monitoring for your disk drives (Check Disks), with instant notifications should a drive be on the brink of failure. 

The program comes with templates to further speed up the creation of backup plans. Version 25 detects when external drives are reconnected and runs associated backup plans automatically for easy plug & play backups. The program can now also run multiple plans sequentially and shutdown Windows upon completion. Driver support, network connectivity, and rescue system have been further enhanced and additional templates added.

Four different compression methods (Zlib, LZMA Quick, LZMA Normal, and LZMA Best) and strong encryption (AES-128, AES-256, Cast-128, and Blowfish) ensure space-efficient and secure backup archives. Users have total control over the storage location and medium, from traditional hard disks to online cloud services for maximum accessibility–and this applies to both individual files and entire disk partitions. 

Archive restore can either be achieved through the program itself or Windows Explorer. When and if the system becomes unstable, Ashampoo® Backup Pro 25's 'rescue system' will still allow you to boot your machine and restore your backup without data loss. It can either be run from a portable flash drive/hard disk or an optical medium, like a DVD

NOTES

 

• Backups_some notes
  
  All backups are created based on backup plans that contain various settings needed for creation, e.g. which data to backup up how often. Backups can either be created at  fixed intervals or manually at the click of a button. Automatic backups (real-time backups) will even be created when the computer is running but no user or a different user is logged on without slowing down your PC as backups will be paused whenever the CPU load surpasses a specific threshold. 
  
  The user is advised to keep his personal  files separate from the system drive and backup to an external drive that isn't permanently connected. This way, it's less likely for ransomware to
  infect backups. You (the user) may want to backup your personal documents at shorter intervals, e.g. once a week and backup your system drive only once a month or once every four months since this process may take a lot longer. 
   
  • Create New Backup Plan
    
    The same as Version 17, Ashampoo® Backup Pro 25 backups can either backup entire disk drives  (image  file) or individual  files and folders. Full disk backups ensure that every  file and application gets saved allowing to restore the drive to a previous state, e.g. in the event of a hardware failure. However, this method requires a lot of time and space. If the user already knows which folders /  files need to be saved, e.g. business documents, he should use the second option (individual files/folders). 
    
    To save space and to accelerate the process, it is recommended to enable compression. (--unless the user is planning on opening the backup with a third-party application that does not have
    compression support.
    
    
  • Infinite incremental backup 
    
    With 'Infinite incremental backup', only modified  files will be added on a regular basis. This saves space and accelerates the backup process significantly but there will be dependencies between backups since they build on one another. This may increase their error vulnerability. So, the need for verifications is needed to validate backups. This technology is great espcially for new users and intermediate ones. 
    
  
  
• NEW: Backup  Shutdown
  
  This is a'nice touch' and a welcome addition because previously the user can create backups and then wait for it to finish so he can shutdown his system (manually). But on me, I'd rather see it 'incorporated' when you create a backup. It does not need to be separated from backup creation. This option has been present in alternative imaging apps like Macrium Reflect v6 (to present), Acronis True Image and AOMEI Backupper Pro. 
  
  
  
• Rescue System
   
  • It is recommended to uninstall any existing Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit before creating the Rescue System disk/usb. 
    
    
    
  • The Ashampoo Backup Pro 25 "Rescue System" is based on Ashampoo Backup Pro 17.09 "Rescue System". 
    
    
    
  • The Ashampoo Backup Pro 25 "Rescue System" is mostly "restore only and tools". The rescue system STILL DOES NOT support backup creation unlike other WinPE rescue systems of alternative backup / imaging applications. 
    
    
    This has been an issue before and I wonder WHY does Ashampoo stick with this scheme...? The rescue system stays limited in functionality as compared with the competition.
    
    
  • There is STILL NO SUPPORT for rescue system .ISO file creation. Only two (2) options are given to the user, (i) USB Stick, and (ii) CD/DVD. 
    
    
    AGAIN, This has been an issue before and I wonder WHY can't Ashampoo add this option...? What's hindering you (Ashampoo) from doing this?
    

Ashampoo® Backup Pro 25 does perform well (seems to be the same as of Ashampoo® Backup Pro 17 though). The new additions are, well, not that significant. The 'rescue system', though Ashampoo states that it has improved driver support,  STILL does not permit creation of backups. ISO creation for the 'rescue disk' is also STILL not present. The mentioned features lacking are all present and has been there with previous versions of the competition. I just cannot get a grasp why Ashampoo cannot incorporate them?
