As reported earlier, Intel will be replacing its Intel Core iX branding with a new fresh naming that drops the ‘i’. However, this is not the only change being implemented for the new Core series. Starting from the next installment in the Core family, there will be a new segment tiering option.

According to Intel, the upcoming Core 5, Core 7 and Core 9 will launch in Mainstream and Premium variants. The latter will adopt “Ultra” branding, whereas the Mainstream version will not use Ultra. What is important to note is that Ultra will only appear on Core 5, 7 and 9, there will be no Core Ultra 3 SKUs judging from the leaked slides.

Intel confirms that the processor numbering system will be adjusted accordingly, but the final numbering is yet to be determined. Do note that those slides may be old, and SKU names are already known internally. It is clearly stated that new branding will start with the “Meteor Lake” series and Ultra will start appearing in the second half of this year.

The slides appear to match what we have already seen with some early benchmarks leaks. As far as those leaks are concerned, the next-gen mobile lineup would not officially be part of the “14th Gen Core” family but rather something like new “10th Gen” with successor featuring “11XX” SKUs and so on.

Many thanks to MR-AERO for the materials!
