Chinese tech channel Golden Pig Upgrade has a review of the Ryzen 7 7840HS processor.

The slide posted above shows the same specs for Ryzen 7040HS and 7040H series. This might appear confusing considered that the last-gen H-series and HS-series did have different TDP specs (6000HS has default 35W TDP and 6000H is 45W). The presentation shared by Golden Pig does not appear to explain the difference between 7000HS and 7000H series. Worth noting that the AMD website does not explain those differences either, the 7940H and 7940HS appear to be identical.

What is not identical are the mobile packages for Phoenix, now pictured right beside each other. The FP8 package supports AMD MIPI CSI (high-speed protocol for transmission of video and images for camera serial interface). Overall, it is up to laptop makers to decide which version suits their product better. The lightweight and portable devices should probably rely on the smaller FP7 package. The platform adoption might also be cheaper, since the Ryzen 6000 “Rembrandt” series used the same type of socket.

As for the review itself, it focuses on comparing Ryzen 7 7840H with Radeon 780M RDNA3 integrated GPU to Ryzen 7735H (based on Rembrandt) and two Intel Raptor Lake CPUs (13700H and 13500H). The latest Ryzen CPU has no doubt leadership in GPU performance, but the upgrade from last-gen RDNA2 iGPU does not appear to be significant. In the end, the iGPU ends up faster than the GeForce MX550 dGPU and gets close to GeForce GTX 1650 Max-Q graphics.
