Emsisoft Anti-Malware awarded VB100 certification in February 2021 tests

Virus Bulletin is an independent security information portal and certification body headquartered in the U.K. For more than 20 years, the group has been conducting the VB100, a certification test that measures the protection capabilities of endpoint security solutions to help users make a more informed decision. 

We took part in the latest round of tests and we’re happy to report that Emsisoft Anti-Malware has yet again earned certification! Read on to learn more about the testing process and the results.  

Testing methodology

To conduct the tests, each security product was installed on a physical computer or virtual machine with specifications similar to those you would find in a typical business environment. Security products were installed with default settings on a clean instance of Windows 10 Pro 64-bit. Full Internet access was allowed throughout the tests. As of January 2021, VB100 tests are no longer tested on Windows 7, which reached end-of-life in January 2020. 

The products were then exposed to thousands of malicious samples collected by malware experts and research groups, as well as a set of approximately 100,000 non-malicious, regularly updated samples taken from popular software downloads. No malicious or clean samples were executed during the tests.

To be awarded VB100 certification, a security product must achieve the following:

• Detect at least 99.5 percent of malicious samples. 
  
• Generate no more than 0.01 percent false positives. 
  

Results

Emsisoft Anti-Malware successfully detected 100 percent of the 1,384 malicious samples and generated zero false positives. As a result, Emsisoft Anti-Malware was once again awarded the VB100!
