In October 2020, Emsisoft participated in the VB100, a long-running certification test that’s designed to evaluate the protection capabilities of endpoint security solutions. The tests are conducted by Virus Bulletin, an independent certification body headquartered in the U.K.

The results of the October 2020 tests have just been released and we’re happy to announce that Emsisoft Anti-Malware has once again earned VB100 certification!

How the tests are conducted

To perform the tests, the security products were installed on physical computers or virtual machines with specifications similar to those you would find on the average endpoint in a typical business environment. Each test was carried out on two different systems, one running Windows 7 Pro, the other running Windows 10 Pro. Security products were installed with default settings and given full Internet access throughout the tests.

The security products were then exposed to thousands of malicious samples curated by various organizations and research groups. To measure false positive detection rates, the products were also exposed to about 100,000 clean files.

The test was performed three times over several days using the same set of samples. To earn VB100 certification, a security product had to meet the following conditions:
  • Detect at least 99.5 percent of malicious samples.
  • Generate no more than 0.01 false positives.
Results

Emsisoft Anti-Malware passed with flying colors, detecting 100 percent of the 1,666 malicious samples and generating zero false positives. As a result, Emsisoft Anti-Malware was once again awarded the VB100!
