Microsoft has introduced a new feature in the latest Windows 11 Insider Preview (Build 26220.6982) aimed at identifying memory-related causes of system crashes. Called Proactive Memory Diagnostics, the feature activates when the system experiences a bugcheck or other unexpected restart.
After rebooting, Windows will prompt the user to schedule a quick memory scan using the built-in Windows Memory Diagnostic tool. The test runs before the next startup, taking about five minutes on average, and will notify the user if a memory issue is detected and resolved.

Microsoft’s move comes as memory-related crashes continue to be difficult to diagnose. Faulty RAM modules, misconfigured XMP or EXPO profiles, or unstable memory controllers can cause subtle corruption that leads to irregular system crashes and data errors. The new diagnostic feature aims to make these problems easier to identify.
