Emsisoft Anti-Malware awarded VB100 in August 2020 tests JARETH

Emsisoft recently participated in the VB100, a certification test more than 20 years in the running. Conducted by independent testing group Virus Bulletin, the VB100 is designed to evaluate the detection capabilities of antivirus products and help users make a more informed decision about their choice of security software.

The results of the July/August 2020 tests have just been announced and we’re proud to report that Emsisoft Anti-Malware has once again earned certification!

Testing methodology

The tests were performed on physical computers or virtual machines with specifications similar to those you would find in an ordinary business environment. Each security product was installed on a clean instance of Windows and configured with default settings. Internet access was allowed throughout the test.

The products were then exposed to thousands of malicious samples collected by malware experts and research groups, as well as a set of 100,000 non-malicious, regularly updated samples taken from popular software downloads. No malicious or clean samples were executed during the tests.

To be awarded VB100 certification, a security product must achieve the following:

• Detect at least 99.5 percent of malicious samples.
  
• Generate no more than 0.01 false positives.
  

Results

We’re happy to announce that Emsisoft Anti-Malware successfully passed the tests, detecting 99.9 percent of the 1,678 malicious samples and generating zero false positives. As a result, Emsisoft Anti-Malware was once again awarded the VB100!
