All desktop browsers support a wide range of keyboard shortcuts to make life easier. From Ctrl-T to open a new tab to Ctrl-5 to jump to the fifth tab on the tab bar.

Sometimes, you may encounter websites that override some of the browser shortcuts. Sites like Google Docs introduce their own shortcuts and these may sometimes conflict with the browser shortcuts.

Most users may not notice the conflict, but for some users, it can be very annoying.

Vivaldi 7.4: more control over shortcuts

Vivaldi 7.4, the latest version of the Vivaldi Chromium-based web browser for the desktop, gives users now full control over the behavior. This means that users can prioritize the shortcuts of a website over the browser's own, or deprioritize them.

Vivaldi Technologies introduced the core functionality in Vivaldi 7.2 already. Back then, the feature allowed users to give specific Vivaldi shortcuts priority. The new update introduces per-site permissions for shortcuts. This allows you to allow or disallow sites to override the browser's shortcuts.



The option is found in the Settings under Privacy & Security. There you find website permissions and the new Prioritize Website Shortcuts permission. You may add individual websites to the browser that are allowed to override the shortcuts of the browser.

So, if you don't want to give priority to the shortcuts that Google Docs tries to enable when you visit the site, you can now block it from doing so.
