The H610 series is intended for systems on a budget, not typically paired with high-end Intel CPUs. To lower the cost even further, customers were also choosing DDR4 memory technology, which is supported by a number of H610 designs. However, as the pricing for the slowest DDR5 kits has plummeted over the past year, there is a clear incentive to slowly phase the older technology out.

Intel is reportedly planning to reduce the production of the B660 and Z690 motherboard series, as consumers now have a choice in B760 and Z790 chipsets respectively. This change would not apply to the H610 series, though, which has no successor. For this reason, board makers are now reportedly choosing to make more DDR5 based models instead, as reported by a Chinese site Board Channels.

The price of DDR5-4800 memory has now reached $91 (2x16GB), which is three times cheaper than it in January last year. That’s a massive change, but it still costs a lot more (~40%) than respective DDR4-2666 2x16GB kit.

For those who are uncertain which technology is the right choice right now, Chinese companies have already come up with an interim solution supporting both the DDR4 and DDR5 standards. However, with just one DIMM slot for each technology, there is hardly any upgrade path available with this board.
