Print non-contiguous page ranges support added to Firefox 85

Mozilla plans to introduce support for printing non-contiguous pages in Firefox 85 Stable. Firefox versions prior to version 85 support the printing of webpages just like any other web browser, but the printing is limited to contiguous page ranges such as pages 1 to 15, or pages 4 to 6.

A Firefox user wanting to print several different page ranges, say pages 1 to 3, and pages 6 to 12, can't configure the browser to do so in one operation; this changes in Firefox 85 with support for non-contiguous page ranges printing.

The feature was suggested about twelve years ago on the official Mozilla@Bugzilla bug tracking website; the then-recent version of Firefox, version 3.0.10, did not support printing non-contiguous pages, and the user suggested to add the feature to the browser.

The bug was picked up this year after Telemetry data suggested that users adjusted printing ranges the most in the printing dialog.

Here is how the print range field works starting in Firefox 85:

• Use the comma separator to separate different page ranges, e.g. 1,3,5 to print the pages one, three and five.
  
• Use minus to define page ranges, e.g. 1-3, 5-7, to print the pages one to three, and five to seven.
  

Just open the print dialog as before, e.g. by using Ctrl-P or by selecting Menu > Print. Firefox displays the print options on the page and you need to switch the pages value from "all" to custom.

The print field becomes editable then and you may enter individual page numbers or page ranges in the field. Just separate the ranges with a comma and all of these will be printed and ever page not listed will be skipped.

The new functionality is already available in Beta an Nightly versions of the Firefox web browser. Mozilla plans to release Firefox 85 Stable on January 26, 2021.

It is the first major stable release of the browser in 2021.
