AFMF2 and VGM for Strix Point

AMD has new features for its Ryzen AI 300 series.



AMD is introducing Ryzen AI 300 series support for its frame generation technology known as AMD Fluid Motion Frames 2 (AFMF2) today. While not yet fully released through the official branch, the preview driver showcases improvements in latency when running compatible hardware.

The compatibility list has now expanded to include Ryzen AI 300 series, AMD’s newest Zen5/RDNA3.5-based APUs, which are available in some laptops and will eventually extend to Mini-PCs (one was announced today) and gaming handhelds. Therefore, what AMD has planned for these APUs is quite important for gamers.

In addition to AFMF2, AMD is also introducing a new technology called Variable Graphics Memory (VGM). Both technologies are designed to maximize the performance of RDNA3.5 graphics. AMD explains that VGM will allow gamers to convert up to 75% of system RAM into dedicated video RAM (vRAM).
