Windows 10 starts bundling servicing stack updates with cumulative updates
#1
Information
Quote:Microsoft has released quality improvements to the Windows 10 servicing stack, the OS component that enables customers to receive and install Windows updates.

KB4577266, the latest servicing stack update (SSU) also comes with a change in the way future SSUs will be deployed to Windows 10 devices.

"Additionally, this update enables a single-package design that incorporates the servicing stack update (SSU) into the latest cumulative update (LCU)," Microsoft explains.
"Combining the SSU and LCU update into a single package provides a more seamless deployment and installation experience."

Microsoft strongly encourages Windows 10 customers to update their servicing stack to the latest available version before installing the latest KB4571756 and KB4574727 September 2020 cumulative updates (LCU), Monthly Rollup updates, or security updates.

Microsoft today also released the September 2020 Patch Tuesday security updates, with updates for 129 vulnerabilities, 23 of them being rated by Microsoft as critical severity.

Windows 10 customers should update their systems' servicing stack to avoid issues during the installation process of future quality or feature updates.
Microsoft explains in the servicing stack support document that:
Quote:Servicing stack updates improve the reliability of the update process to mitigate potential issues while installing the latest quality updates and feature updates. If you don't install the latest servicing stack update, there's a risk that your device can't be updated with the latest Microsoft security fixes.
