AMD’s Ryzen 7 9850X3D is a refresh of the Ryzen 7 9800X3D. The chip keeps an 8-core, 16-thread Zen 5 layout. The design still uses 3D V-Cache. The main spec change is higher peak clocks, with up to 5.6GHz boost on the 9850X3D versus up to 5.2GHz on the 9800X3D. 

AMD says the 9850X3D can be up to 7% faster than the 9800X3D in gaming, based on AMD testing.AMD also claims a 27% average lead versus Intel’s Core Ultra 9 285K across a subset of more than 35 games at 1080p. Below, we pull together what major reviews report and where results line up or diverge.

Ryzen 7 9850X3D goes on sale on January 29, 2026. AMD set the US MSRP at $499.
