JEDEC has confirmed that the Universal Flash Storage (UFS) 5.0 standard is nearing completion. The new specification aims to deliver faster and more efficient storage for AI systems, mobile devices, and edge computing platforms while maintaining full compatibility with UFS 4.x hardware. It focuses on performance and power efficiency for use in smartphones, automotive systems, and other compact computing devices.

UFS 5.0 doubles the sequential performance of the previous generation, reaching speeds up to 10.8 GB/s. The update also introduces link equalization for better signal stability and a dedicated power rail that isolates noise between physical and memory layers, improving reliability and system design.
