Valve SteamOS 3.7 stable released: full Legion GO S support and limited support for o

Quote:SteamOS released

Valve has officially released SteamOS on the stable branch, meaning users no longer need to rely on beta or preview builds to install the gaming focused operating system. Official support for third party hardware is currently limited to a single product, the Legion Go S, although Valve confirms this release also works with other AMD powered handhelds, though support remains limited for now.

The release of SteamOS marks an important milestone for handheld manufacturers. It enables them to ship devices with a popular alternative OS, already proven on the Steam Deck. However, manufacturers cannot freely use the SteamOS name or logo, they still need a license from Valve. While it’s possible that a SteamOS license is more affordable than a Windows license, this has not been confirmed publicly. If broader support for AMD based handhelds is added, we may begin to see new devices shipping with SteamOS. Valve has also confirmed ongoing collaboration with other companies interested in using the OS, though none have been named.
