Ryzen 9000 105W TDP mode coming with next AGESA

You don’t have to worry about the warranty. 



Last week, MSI announced a new feature for its 600-series motherboards for two Ryzen processors. Specifically, the 6-core Ryzen 5 9600X and 8-core Ryzen 7 9700X can now be enabled through a special BIOS setting to run at 105W TDP by default. This feature is not part of the official AGESA 1.2.0.1 release that this motherboard firmware uses; rather, it is MSI’s attempt to add a feature that will eventually become standard.

According to Hassan Mujtaba of Wccftech, known for his close contact with MSI’s motherboard engineering team, the upcoming AGESA 1.2.0.2 will officially add this mode across all vendors, and what’s perhaps even more important, it will be covered by the warranty.
 

This is a trial/BETA release for now and an official implementation of this feature is expected to roll out with the AGESA 1.2.0.2 BIOS update. This update is expected in late September and will be available across motherboards from all manufacturers.

This update will also be included with the 800-series motherboards by default, without any requirement for a BIOS update. 

As we know, running the CPU out of spec is typically a reason for voiding the warranty. However, since this feature will be available through an official AGESA update, it will also be within AMD’s specifications. Therefore, users who decide to run their 6/8-core Zen 5 CPUs at a higher power limit should not be worried about potential damage.
