This took months for AMD to finally confirm, but the wait is finally over. Just days after ASUS revealed their first ROG STRIX laptop equipped with the Ryzen 8000HX series, AMD is now making the series official.

The codename “Dragon Range Refresh” refers to the Ryzen 7000HX refresh under the 8000HX family. These are essentially the same processors, except they are supposed to be a bit faster. This means that this is basically a new Zen 4 product and a new alternative to the just-launched Fire Range series equipped with Zen 5.

The flagship SKU in the Refresh is the Ryzen 9 8945HX, which ships with 16 Zen 4 cores and boosts up to 5.4 GHz. AMD confirms that this SKU will have a global launch. The series is positioned for high-end gaming platforms with TDPs ranging from 55 to 75W. Gamers will get fast CPUs that are repurposed desktop-class processors with the same CCDs and IODs, except power-restricted for the laptop market.
