iOS 14 inches toward release with another beta

Today, Apple is releasing yet another round of developer betas for iOS 14, iPadOS 14, watchOS 7, and tvOS 14. This is the eighth build for each of them, which means that we're coming down to the final stretch. The Cupertino firm is still squashing some bugs and possibly refining a few things, but it's almost time for a GM seed.
 
In a normal year, new iPhones would be announced right around now, and after the event, GM seeds would be released to developers. But there's no iPhone event, and there probably won't be one until October. Apple is holding an event next week that's going to be focused on Apple Watch and iPad, so perhaps we'll see GM seeds after that.
 
Interestingly, Apple's release notes for iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 beta 8 don't show any actual resolved issues. There's just a list of known issues, although many of them seem to be on the developer end of things, or have to do with permanent changes.
 
Normally, the public rollout of these updates would arrive later in September, but with the COVID-19 pandemic, it's anyone's guess.
