According to a recent discovery, however, Windows 10 version 2004 will use the name that everyone expects and which perfectly aligns with its predecessors.
Tero Alhonen revealed on Twitter that the latest Windows 10 preview build shipped as part of the Windows Insider program includes a hint that version 2004 could be called… May 2020 Update, something that makes total sense after the release of the November 2019 Update and the May 2019 Update.
Microsoft seems to be sticking with its approach of naming new feature updates based on the month they are shipping, so the May 2020 Update will most likely go live for production devices in some 30 days.
The version number of each release is also an indicator as to when the RTM build has been signed off. In our case, Windows 10 version 2004 is supposed to be finalized this month – the first two digits represent the year when an update is done (2020), while the other two digits indicate the month (the fourth month), therefore this release should be complete in April 2020.
