Future Windows 10 Version Could Allow Reinstalling from the Cloud
#1
Quote:A future Windows 10 update could come with a tool to perform a reinstall of the operating system using a system image stored in the cloud, according to a recent leak.

Microsoft watcher WalkingCat revealed on Twitter that the boot UX, or the boot user experience, would be updated in Windows 10 build 18950 to allow the reinstall of Windows using two options that aren’t yet available in the OS.

When initiating a reinstall users will be allowed to choose between cloud download for the fresh image of the OS and a local reset, which would power a reinstall of the existing Windows operating system.

Windows 10 build 18950 is part of the Windows 10 20H1 development branch and is not yet available for users.

Needless to say, these options are very likely to be part of the Windows Core OS experience and could end up being offered on Windows Lite, a simplified version of Windows that would compete against the likes of Google Chrome OS. On the other hand, it could very well be offered in the full flavor of Windows 10 too, albeit this is something that still remains to be seen.

Quote:Microsoft has finally confirmed that it’s working on a so-called “cloud download” option for Windows 10 that would allow users to restore the operating system using an image stored in the cloud.

The latest Windows 10 preview build shipped to the Fast ring of the Insider program introduces this option in the recovery screen, albeit Microsoft says this isn’t ready just yet, so it won’t work as expected.

“Insiders may notice some references to “Cloud download” relating to PC reset or refresh. This feature isn’t available and working quite yet. We’ll let you know once it is, so you can try it out!”
Dona Sarkar, chief of the Windows Insider program, said.
