Bug Breaks Internet Explorer 11 on Some Windows 10 Versions - silversurfer - 07 June 19

Quote:The latest updates for Windows 10 version 1809 and Windows Server 2019 could prevent Internet Explorer 11 from launching if there is no default search provider or a malformed one is configured for the browser.

Internet Explorer uses the Windows Registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchScopes to configure a default search provider for the browser.

According to a new issue posted to the Windows Health Dashboard, Microsoft has stated that starting with the 2019-05 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1809 (KB4497934), "Internet Explorer 11 may fail to open if Default Search Provider is not set or is malformed."

This can be used by the DefaultScope value being removed or a missing SearchScope. When users are affected by this bug, Internet Explorer 11 will briefly start and then automatically close.
This issue affects the following version of Windows:

Code:
Client: Windows 10, version 1809; Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2019; Windows 10, version 1803; Windows 10, version 1709; Windows 10, version 1703; Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2016; Windows 10, version 1607 Server: Windows Server 2019; Windows Server 2016
