It’s been more than a year since Intel officially began investigating the instability issues reported on Raptor Lake-based processors. The wait was long and confusing, and so was the explanation. Apparently, the problem derived from multiple factors and required extensive testing to identify the root cause.

However, since September, when the last microcode update addressing the issue was released, Intel has continued its investigation. The company has received reports that systems running for multiple days with low activity may still show signs of instability. This prompted Intel to release a new microcode update, version 0x12F, to address the issue.

While Intel is not confirming the exact changes introduced in this update, it has stated that the 0x12F microcode does not affect performance compared to the previous version, which directly addressed the root cause.
